This Sundy walk in the park

Led by Nick Shema, this Sunday's five-mile roundtrip hike will start at the resources management parking area. We will take the Kilauea Iki Trail to Na Huku (Thurston Lava Tube). From there we will proceed past Na Huku down the Escape Road for about one mile and take a right on the Crater Rim Trail. We will follow that trail to the Chain of Craters Road and proceed to the Devastation Trail parking lot. From there we will take the Byron Ledge Trail to the Kilauea Iki Trail and back to the starting location. We will stop for bag lunches along the way. This program is FREE Details This will be a moderately strenuous hike of about five miles roundtrip, mostly on forested trails. Participants should be prepared for the base 4,000’ elevation as well as for variable weather conditions, including sunny, windy, chilly, and/or rainy. Please bring: •drinking water •bag lunch •hat, sunscreen & sunglasses •closed-toe hiking shoes or boots •warm jacket or windbreaker •raingear •personal items (e.g., backpack, camera, binoculars, etc.)
